Local Bus Service

VTA operates an extensive network of local bus routes serving the urbanized portions of Santa Clara county. These routes serve main arterial streets, neighborhoods/residential areas, shopping, schools, employment areas and other businesses. Approximately 80% of Santa Clara County residents are within a quarter mile of a transit route.

Commuter Services

Express Bus Service
VTA operates Express bus routes linking residential areas of the County with Silicon Valley industrial centers. Major employers work with VTA to develop and refine commuter services. In addition, regional Express Route 180 provides daily service connecting Caltrain, Downtown San Jose, and Milpitas with BART in Fremont.

Park and Ride Lots
VTA provides Park and Ride lots for commuters. All Park and Ride lots may be used as convenient meeting points for carpool and vanpool passengers and most are served by Express bus routes. Many lots have special features such as passenger shelters, transit schedule signs and bicycle lockers.

Airport Flyer
The free VTA/SJC Airport Flyer takes off for Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport daily from 5:00 am until Midnight - weekdays, every 15 minutes; weekends, every 15 minutes. Catch the Airport Flyer at VTA's Metro/Airport Light Rail stop and at the Santa Clara Caltrain station.

Park Free For up to Seven Days!
VTA wants to make it easy for you to park, ride, and fly. That is why we are now providing Airport Long-Term Parking at many of our Park & Ride lots. Now you can park your vehicle for up to seven days at select VTA Park & Ride lots, and let us take you to the airport! Just park your vehicle in one of over two hundred and fifty designated Airport Long-Term Parking spaces at the following VTA Light Rail Stations: Almaden, Blossom Hill, Branham, Capitol, Cottle, Curtner, Evelyn, Ohlone/Chynoweth, Santa Theresa, Snell, and Tamien. As with regular Park & Ride parking, Airport Long-Term Parking is a free service of VTA. Enjoy your trip and don’t forget Airport Long-Term Parking is limited to a 7-day maximum, look for signs marking the designated spaces.

Special Event / Sports Service

49ers Service

VTA provides bus service to weekend 49ers home football games. The following select Park and Ride lots are designated pick-up locations for direct service to Monster during the 2005 football season: the Capitol Light Rail Station Park & Ride Lot, VTA River Oaks Park & Ride Lot, or at Vallco Park & Ride Lot (Vallco Parkway & Finch) in Cupertino.

The buses depart these locations at different times depending on what the scheduled start time of the game:

Capitol Light Rail Park & Ride Lot:
The Bus Stop is in the main parking lot (on south side of Capitol Expwy.). Parking is available in the VTA Park & Ride lot.

Game Time: 1:05 pm
Departure Time: 10:05 am

Game Time: 7:00 pm
Departure Time: 4:05 pm

Vallco Park & Ride Lot :
The Bus Stop is located at Vallco Parkway and Finch Avenue.
Note: The parking lot at Tantau Avenue and Stevens Creek Boulevard is no longer used.

Game Time: 1:05 pm
Departure Time: 10:40 am

Game Time: 7:00 pm
Departure Time: 4:40 pm

N. First St. and River Oaks:
The Bus Stop is located at Southbound North 1st St. (heading towards Montague Expwy.) at River Oaks. Parking is available in the VTA parking lot adjacent to 1st & River Oaks.

Departure Time: 10:50 am

Game Time: 7:00 pm
Departure Time: 4:50 pm

Buses are scheduled to leave Monster Park and return to Santa Clara County approximately 20 minutes after the end of the game.

Highway 17 Express

The Highway 17 inter-county express service is a joint effort between VTA, Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District, Caltrans, Amtrak, and the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Board. The express service is provided seven days a week, with weekday service provided from 4:40 am to 10:30 pm. Weekend/Holiday service will be offered from 5:50 am to 10:15 pm. Buses operate approximately every 20 minutes during peak commute hours during the week, and approximately every hour during other times. Nine trips between Santa Cruz Metro Center and San Jose Diridin Station are offered each directions on weekend and holidays, call for specific times. Morning and evening commute hour buses begin and end at Dominican Hospital at Highway 1 and Soquel Drive in Santa Cruz, making stops at Pasatiempo Inn in Santa Cruz and the Scott's Valley Park-and-Ride lot. Off-peak trips begin and end at the Santa Cruz Metro Center in Santa Cruz. In downtown San Jose, buses serve key transfer points between Bird & San Carlos and San Fernando & Third, including the San Jose Diridon station (Caltrain, ACE, Amtrak), the Transit Mall and San Jose State University.

Dumbarton Express

The Dumbarton inter-county express service is a joint effort between VTA, SamTrans, AC Transit, Union City Transit and BART. The express service is provided Monday through Friday from 5:00 am to 7:00 pm Buses operate every 15 to 30 minutes during peak commute hours and every 90 minutes during other times. During morning and evening commute hours, buses operate between the Union City BART station and the Stanford Research Park in Palo Alto near Page Mill Road. Off-peak trips operate between the Union City BART station and the Palo Alto Caltrain station.
