|Phase I||Phase II|
|Downtown San Jose Station|
In keeping with voter-approved Measure A, VTA is committed to delivering the full 16-mile extension of the BART line to Santa Clara County, known as VTA's BART Silicon Valley Extension. Work continues for Phase II of the project, which will include a 5-mile-long subway tunnel through downtown San Jose, will extend the BART system from the planned Berryessa Extension terminus for approximately six miles, ending at-grade in Santa Clara near the Caltrain Station. As part of the environmental document, multiple station location options are being studied for the Downtown San Jose Station and the Diridon Station. In addition, two different tunneling construction methodologies are being studied – twin bore tunneling and single bore tunneling.
Downtown San Jose Station - West Option
VTA is currently considering East and West options for the Downtown San Jose BART Station. The West Option for the station would be located between Market and Third Streets in downtown San Jose, the Downtown San Jose Station would consist of below-ground concourse and boarding platform levels with bicycle facilities. There are multiple station entrances planned and includes convenient connections to VTA Light Rail service and several VTA bus lines.
