In honor of National Apprenticeship Day 2025, VTA proudly congratulates and recognizes the dedication and achievements of our apprentices.
Apprenticeship programs are a cornerstone of VTA’s workforce development, and we are proud to offer five registered programs through the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS), the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), or both.
Over the past year, we’ve had active cohorts in four key apprenticeship areas: Coach Operator, Light Rail Operator, Track Worker, and Overhead Line Worker.
These programs offer more than just technical training—they provide our employees with the skills and credentials needed to grow their careers while earning college credit through our valued partnership with Mission College.
In 2024, VTA supported hundreds of apprentices in their journey toward skilled, meaningful careers:
- Coach Operator – 269 apprentices
- Light Rail Operator – 35 apprentices
- Track Worker – 11 apprentices
- Overhead Line Worker – 6 apprentices
Through our Labor Management Partnership with ATU Local 265, VTA continues to invest in workforce development strategies that fill critical positions while opening doors for our employees.
A total of 85 individuals successfully completed their programs, earning certificates of completion from both Mission College and the DAS and/or DOL.
These programs range from 18 to 24 months and reflect our ongoing commitment to creating clear, supported pathways from entry-level maintenance to long-term careers.
We thank all our apprentices for their hard work and congratulate them on this important milestone.
