The Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has approximately $81 million from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to share in its fourth round of funding for the fourth cycle of the One Bay Area Grant program (OBAG 4).
What is OBAG 4?
OBAG 4 is the primary framework for how federal transportation dollars are distributed across the nine-county Bay Area. These funds are dedicated to funding projects from October 2026 through September 2030. A variety of improvements are eligible for funding, including but not limited to:
Safety & Infrastructure Improvements
- Complete Streets
- Safe Routes to School
- Street repaving
- Safer & wider sidewalks
- Streetlights & walk buttons on traffic signals
- Bike detectors at traffic signals
- Bus stop shelters & amenities
- Timed traffic signal
Better Trips & Pathways
- New sidewalks & crosswalks
- New bicycle paths & multi-use trails
- Safer bike lanes
- Bus boarding islands & bus-only lanes
- New bike/pedestrian bridges & tunnels
Transportation projects funded by OBAG 4 must be consistent with the MTC’s Complete Streets Policy and Transit Priority Policy for Roadways.
How You Can Participate
As part of the MTC Complete Streets Checklist process, local agencies must have their project applications reviewed by their respective Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) or equivalent body. VTA’s BPAC will be reviewed VTA- and County- sponsored projects at their June meeting. Check with your local agency regarding your local BPAC meeting.
If you have a project or transportation improvement that you would like to see completed in your town, city, and county, please contact your representative listed in the brochure or VTA staff at obag@vta.org by June 30, 2026.
