Recycling stations at vta

In an effort to increase textile recycling and lessen the amount of waste produced, Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has partnered with Green Education Foundation nonprofit to introduce Neighborhood Donation Recycling Stations (NDRS) at four VTA locations in San Jose. Starting this summer, VTA passengers and community members can visit their NDRS at the VTA stations in Milpitas, Almaden, Santa Teresa, and Snell. (In addition, VTA has another 2 NDRS locations in Santa Clara) For more information on how you can help keep San Jose clean and green, please read on!

NDRS, or neighborhood donation recycling stations, are a great way to reduce waste and recycle materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. At the VTA stations, NDRS are placed in strategic locations making it easy for passengers and residents to donate items they no longer need. Items that are commonly donated include old shoes, clothes, bags, toys, and bed sheets. NDRS also accepts reusable water bottles, umbrellas, and more. You can find a full list of acceptable items here

By diverting usable items from landfills, NDRS help to conserve materials and prevent pollution. Furthermore, recycling helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as it takes less energy to recycle materials than it does to produce new materials. So, by donating to your NDRS, you are not only helping to reduce waste, but you are also helping to protect the environment. Green Education Foundation’s closed loop recycling system ensures nothing donated goes to waste, and that everything gets a second life! To learn more about NDRS, please visit recyclingedu.org

Each year, Green Education Foundation diverts over 50 million pounds of materials from landfills with the goal of eventually reaching 100 million pounds per year! They accomplish this with help from cities and organizations, who place NDRS on their properties in order to provide community members a place to recycle.

VTA’s environmental initiatives are making a difference in helping to create a more sustainable future for all. Green Education Foundation is proud to be taking on these impactful initiatives with VTA! By taking on these initiatives, VTA is making a positive difference for the environment and setting an example for other organizations to follow. Keep San Jose clean and green, visit your VTA NDRS today!
