After just six months of construction crews are making progress in reconfiguring the interchange at US 101 and SR 25 in Gilroy. The new on-ramp to Highway 101 Northbound from SR 25 is now open giving commuters a longer approach to the transition, allowing traffic to move more smoothly. Starting January 14 a traffic signal will begin operating at the intersection of 25 and 101 to ensure a controlled flow of traffic.
This intersection has been one of the most congested in the area with the growth of the population in South Santa Clar County and San Benito County. VTA began construction in May 2025 to reconfigure the interchange with the goal of making it safer, easier to use, and better prepared for future growth.
Other work completed in 2025:
- Some local access points to southbound US 101 were permanently closed to make room for a longer, safer off-ramp
- Crews cleared and graded land where new ramps and bridges will be built
- Older structures near the interchange were removed
Construction is expected to continue into 2027, with an estimated completion of Fall 2027.
