Looking to get your hands dirty? Join VTA in meeting its environmental mitigation goals!
Before VTA breaks ground on any type of project, be it a transit infrastructure, bicycle/pedestrian, or highway project, our diligent Environmental team surveys and catalogues trees that need to be removed. From there, they work to ensure the reforestation of the community at a higher rate of return, ensuring that environmental impacts due to the loss of tree canopy are mitigated.
Tree replacements ensure VTA’s commitment to lessen the impact on the quality of the environment, maintain ecological balance, and the aesthetic of the area affected by a project.
VTA has partnered with Our City Forest (OCF) to offer free trees to properties in select areas of Santa Clara County. This partnership is designed to restore and enhance greenery in specific project areas, such as East San Jose and Sunnyvale, by replacing trees that were removed due to construction. These partnerships support the reforestation of Santa Clara County. Since its inception, the partnership has found homes for 193 trees!
The VTA Free Trees Program is currently looking for homes for 198 trees in Sunnyvale and 57 trees in the East Side of San Jose.
Check out our Free Tree Brochure to see if you’re eligible for a tree.
