VTA received Board approval of its California Environmental Quality Act document (Subsequent Environmental Impact Report) in April 2018. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) issued a Record of Decision on the federal environmental document (Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement) in June 2018. This means VTA can continue the Phase II Project and submit for Federal funding.
VTA submitted an Expression of Interest to FTA for entry into the Pilot Program for Expedited Project Delivery (EPD) in November 2018. In June 2019, FTA selected VTA as its first participant in the pilot program. In August 2019, FTA allocated $125 million to VTA's BART Phase II Project. VTA submitted its EPD application to FTA for a full-funding agreement in 2021.
