Approximately five of the six mile Phase II Project will be in a subway tunnel, starting just east of US-101 and Las Plumas Avenue and ending just north of I-880 and Newhall Street. The 28th Street/Little Portugal, Downtown San José, and Diridon stations will have underground platforms. The Santa Clara Station will be built at ground level. BART tracks are always separated from streets, which provides faster and safer service.
