The Transportation Fund for Clean Air includes funding awarded through the nine Bay Area counties as well as directly by the Bay Area Air Quality Management Air District for projects that reduce on-road motor vehicle emissions.
In 1991, the state legislature authorized the Air District to impose a $4 surcharge on cars and trucks registered within the Air District’s jurisdiction to provide the grant funding.
