San Jose Water Company and its contractor, Pacific Underground Construction (PUC), will also continue work on the underground water line along Capitol Avenue and relocate the fire hydrant on the sidewalk. The existing sidewalk and roadway next to the Crossroads Shopping Center will be restored after the water line work is completed in the area.

There is no anticipated impact on water service to the shopping center businesses, but the building’s fire suppression system will be temporarily interrupted for one day while the new water service is connected to the building fire suppression system. If there is any emergency disruption to water service, San Jose Water Company will immediately notify their customers.

WHERE: Crossroads Shopping Center is located at 459 S. Capitol Avenue, activities are in the landscaped area next to the driveway and within the sidewalk along Capitol Avenue. Work on Capitol Avenue in front of the driveway will be done to minimize impacts and keep the driveway accessible. When activities are in front of the driveway, half of the driveway will remain open and the construction crew will assist traffic accessing the shopping center.

WHEN: Preparation work will begin on 7/1/22 for the shopping center’s fire suppression system connection to the new water service that is planned for 7/6/22.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Activities include and are not limited to:

  • Noise from demolition, jackhammering, excavation, and other construction equipment, and truck/backup alarms
  • Partial, intermittent driveway and sidewalk closures as needed
  • Fire hydrant relocation
  • Water line installation and connection
  • Restore sidewalk with new concrete and roadway with new asphalt paving

NOTES: For the safety of the public and construction workers, traffic control measures will be used when needed. Information and warning signs will be posted to ensure safety.
