What
Ongoing Construction Activities (Now through early August):
- Demolition and cleanup at the Garlic Shoppe site (near NB US 101 On-Ramp) continues through August 1.
- Tree removal is underway in areas previously protected due to nesting birds.
- Permanent signage installation (West side of project) scheduled for August 4–6, helping guide drivers around the permanent closure of 101 on- and off-ramps at Castro Valley Rd and Mesa Rd.
- Retaining wall construction continues near the future SR 25 connector. This includes:
- Spraying concrete (shotcrete)
- Rebar installation
- Anchor/nail drilling
- Drainage installation has resumed following environmental clearance.
- Pile driving and bridge foundation work are ongoing near SR 25.
Active Work Zones:
- Northbound US 101 ramps (near Garlic Shoppe)
- SR 25 connector and bridge foundation area
- Retaining wall adjacent to the SR 25 on-ramp to SB US 101

Why
VTA, in partnership with Caltrans, continues construction on Phase 1 of the US 101/SR 25 Interchange Improvement Project. Motorists traveling through Gilroy and San Benito County should expect the following activities and impacts:
Detour
For SB US 101 Off-Ramp to SR 25 Closure:
➡ Continue on SB US 101 past closed ramp
➡ Exit at Betabel Rd, turn left
➡ Enter NB US 101, then exit to SR 25
For NB SR 25 to SB US 101 Closure:
➡ Turn left on Castro Valley Rd
➡ Continue east past Mesa Rd & Bolsa Rd
➡ Turn right on Monterey Rd
➡ Merge onto SB US 101 On-Ramp
