Why

The Santa Clara County Transportation Authority (VTA) completed the SR85 Noise Reduction Program (Phase 1) Study in 2016. VTA, in cooperation with the cities of San Jose, Campbell, Saratoga, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Mountain View, and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), proposes to implement the next pilot phase (Phase 2) of the SR 85 Noise Reduction Program on State Route (SR) 85 in Santa Clara County.

The purpose of this Phase 2 project is to:
•    Test the noise reduction measures at five locations identified in the Phase 1(see map)
•    Re-examine the feasibility to implement acoustically absorptive barrier treatment and/or barrier cap to the top of the existing noise barriers;
•    Monitor and evaluate the efficacy of the noise treatments (Pavement surfacing) for implementation of a permanent solution to reduce noise level on SR 85 by a follow-on Phase 3 project.

Detour

Follow detour signage for temporary, intermittent ramp closures at Saratoga Avenue, Homestead Road, and 85 on-ramp from Helena Drive.

Community Impacts

While all efforts will be made to reduce impacts, residents located near the work locations SR 85 between Blossom Hill Road, San Jose and SR 82 Mountain View (see map for the specific locations on San Jose, Saratoga, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and Mountain View) may experience noise and light from construction operations and equipment.
