VTA will continue construction activities on State Route (SR) 85 in San Jose next week. Most work will take place overnight to minimize traffic impacts. Work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

What to Expect

  • Lane and Ramps may be closed nightly (8:00 PM – 5:00 AM):
    • Temporary closures may occur near the Saratoga Avenue on-ramp, as well as along median sections of SR 85.
    • Drivers should watch for shifted lanes and K-rail barrier adjustments.
  • Noise and Lighting:
    • Nighttime work will include guardrail replacement, concrete barrier installation, pavement grinding, and storm drain adjustments.
    • Residents near the corridor may notice construction noise and work lights.

Work Activities

  • Guardrail replacement along outside shoulders and median sections.
  • Median concrete barrier installation (hand- and machine-poured).
  • Pavement grinding and asphalt repaving with rubberized asphalt.
  • Drainage improvements, storm inlet adjustments, and trash capture device installation.
  • Surveying and utility potholing at concrete barrier locations.

  • Saratoga area (northbound on-ramp): Ivy removal, guardrail replacement.
  • Median sections (multiple locations): Concrete barrier pours, inlet adjustments, pavement work.
  • Outside shoulders (various): Guardrail replacement, inlet adjustments, trash capture devices.
