State Route 17 (SR 17) Corridor Congestion Relief Project

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), in cooperation with the Town of Los Gatos and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), proposes to construct improvements on State Route 17 and upgrade the State Route 17/ State Route 9 interchange in the Town of Los Gatos.

Objectives

The purpose of this project is to:

• Relieve congestion and improve traffic operations on the freeways and local roadways
• Reduce cut through traffic in the Town of Los Gatos;
• Improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities and connectivity; and
• Support interfacing with multi-modal congestion relief solutions.

Project Features

The proposed improvements may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Modify on- and off-ramps at the State Route 17/ State Route 9 interchange.
• Modify State Route 17 mainline lanes and shoulder to eliminate lane-drops and bottlenecks from Lark Avenue to State Route 17/ State Route 9 interchange.
• Implement and/or interface with advanced transportation technology solutions such as advanced traffic signal control systems being implemented by the Town, advanced traveler information systems, advanced ramp metering systems and web-based applications.
• Implement complete streets consistent features to improve bicyclist and pedestrian travel.

Public Scoping Meeting

A virtual public scoping meeting for this project was held Thursday, May 19, 2022. The purpose of the meeting was to gather input on the scope and content for the environmental document. If you missed it, you can view a recording of the scoping meeting on Youtube. 

The deadline for receiving comments on the project environmental scope was June 6, 2022.
