In celebration of Transit Month, VTA is saying thank you to riders by offering FREE bus and light rail service Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025. Whether you’re a seasoned transit rider or experiencing public transportation for the first time, we hope you’ll hop aboard—it's on the house! 

Free Fare Day starts at the beginning of service, Tuesday, Sept. 23, and continues through 3 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24.  Be sure to plan your Free Fare Day adventures with VTA’s Trip Planner or the Transit app. To see the full list of our Transit Month activities, check out the VTA Transit Month blog. 

Sept. 23 was also chosen for All Aboard Bay Area Transit Day. Throughout the region, transit agencies will be celebrating this day with giveaways, events, and more as part of the larger Transit Month celebration.
