We're about to announce a second round of grantees for a unique program to help foster Transit Oriented Communities. The goal is to grow innovative and robust partnerships between VTA and local public agencies, nonprofit, community organizations, and other diverse stakeholders to strengthen communities, increase transit ridership, reduce the need for car trips, and support intensive mixed-use, mixed-income development around transit stations and transit hubs. VTA works to make that happen with grant funding to local organizations who are already doing that work, to help them thrive and succeed.
The first round of grants, presented in Fall 2024, included Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana (MACLA) to help with its free, annual, family-friendly celebration of Puerto Rican and Caribbean music and culture at Parque de los Pobladores in downtown San José, with live performances, dancing and community spirit.
