Planning Ahead for 2026 Special Events
01/22/2024
The FIFA World Cup and Super Bowl LX may be two years away, but VTA is already starting to lay the groundwork for ensuring successful, safe transit service to Levi’s Stadium for expected record crowds. Think…the Taylor Swift and Beyonce concerts multiplied by 10.
VTA is positioned as the primary public transportation service to move record numbers of people safely and securely over the course of these events in the winter and summer of 2026. Just as teams and athletes prepare for their championships, VTA’s System Safety & Security, Operations and other key divisions and staff are developing emergency plans, training, and exercises to ensure the best customer experience possible.
On January 18th VTA’s Emergency Management Department brought together over 60 staff from departments throughout the agency for a discussion-based tabletop exercise to review key emergency management capabilities with a focus towards readiness for the large 2026 special events.
“The foundation for preparing is training and exercising those muscles that we’re going to depend on when we are faced with unimaginable challenges,” said Chief System Safety and Security Officer Aston Greene.
The diverse group of VTA staff included union representation, executives, Safety and Security personnel and many roles from throughout the agency, guided by Emergency Management experts from Florida-based consulting firm Tetra Tech. The half day exercise was the first of multiple emergency management planning events that will take place over the next two years. Future events will include collaborations with other local agencies and municipalities related to Levi’s Stadium.
