Reward Offered in Operator Attack

A three-thousand-dollar reward is now being offered for information leading to the apprehension of the person who attacked a VTA bus operator with a bow and arrow.

The operator was shot in the back as he walked in a residential neighborhood on his work break Tuesday afternoon, April 27.  The operator was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery for his wound and was released.  He is recovering at home. The assailant has not yet been located.

VTA is contributing to a reward fund along with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265, and the Sheriff’s Advisory Board of Santa Clara County.

The Sheriff’s Office Transit Patrol is investigating the attack, which took place near the corner of Sierra Grande Way and South Capitol Avenue around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact them at 408-808-4500, or at the Sheriff’s Office’s anonymous tip line: 408-808-4431.
