Voters Approve Regional Transit Measure to Strengthen Transit Service and Connectivity

Bay Area voters have approved the Regional Transit Measure (RTM), securing a significant investment in public transportation and regional mobility. The measure provides funding to help sustain transit service, strengthen regional connections, and advance key improvements across the Bay Area, while enabling VTA, BART, and Caltrain to continue connecting communities and supporting the region's economy for the residents of Santa Clara County.

"Voters have made a powerful statement about the importance of public transportation to our region's future," said Carolyn Gonot, VTA General Manager/CEO. "This result demonstrates that people understand the essential role transit plays in connecting residents to jobs, schools, healthcare, and opportunity. We are grateful for their trust and support. RTM provides resources to strengthen service, improve reliability, and invest in innovations that will help VTA meet the transportation needs of future generations."

RTM will support investments in infrastructure, accessibility, system modernization, and improvements to the customer experience. The measure also reinforces the region's commitment to an integrated transportation network, with VTA, BART, and Caltrain working together to move people efficiently throughout the Bay Area.

“Last night was a referendum on the importance of a strong regional transit system, and voters made their voices heard loud and clear,” said VTA Chair Sergio Lopez. “Public transit is essential for a future where economic opportunity and freedom of mobility are a given for our residents. Now the work begins for the Board of Directors to take this mandate and invest in innovation, accountability, and our people to best serve riders and residents. Thank you to voters for their confidence, as well as the volunteers who put in countless hours to make this result happen. This victory belongs to you.”

With RTM approved, VTA will work closely with regional partners to strengthen transit service, improve regional connectivity, and advance strategic investments that enhance mobility, reliability, and accessibility. Guided by a commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public funds, VTA will invest in the technologies and innovations that help shape the future of public transportation while building a more connected, efficient, and resilient transportation network for the Bay Area.
