Berryessa/North San Jose Transit Center Transit-Oriented Development

The Berryessa/North San Jose Transit-Oriented Development site is a 3.3-acre property owned by VTA adjacent to the Berryessa BART Station, located on Mabury Road and Berryessa Station Way. The site is part of the City of San José's Berryessa BART Urban Village Plan. Phase 1 of the development is a 100% affordable housing project on one acre of the site with mixed-use, market-rate housing and office development in future phases.

VTA partnered with the Santa Clara County Office of Supportive Housing for Phase 1. The Office of Supportive Housing administers the 2016 Measure A Affordable Housing Bond. This partnership encourages the development of affordable housing at the site.

Station Access Study

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) initiated a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Station Access Study to analyze multi-modal station access and circulation at the Berryessa/North San Jose Transit Center. VTA will conduct the analysis in coordination with a proposed affordable housing transit-oriented development project at Mabury Road and Berryessa Station Way. The Station Access Study will evaluate existing conditions and future needs at the transit center while considering future development plans and projected ridership. The Study will propose recommendations to improve accessibility to the transit center and future development, including bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements, wayfinding and signage, and transit rider amenities.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We want to improve the rider experience for customers who utilize the Berryessa/North San Jose transit Center, and we need your help.

As part of the Berryessa/North San Jose transit Center Transit-Oriented Development project, VTA recently conducted a series of pop-up events, an online survey, and a station walk audit to determine how people access the transit center. VTA is following up to share what we learned and provide the opportunity to give feedback on proposed station access recommendations to ensure they align with the community’s expectations.

VTA is hosting pop-up events where you can connect with staff and share your feedback in person. Dates, times, and locations are listed below:
