Milpitas Transit Center Transit-Oriented Development

The Milpitas Transit Center is a VTA real estate asset with a 1.7-acre parcel available for future development. It is located in the southern portion of the City of Milpitas, nestled along Great Mall Parkway and Montague Expressway and adjacent to the Milpitas BART Station and VTA’s Light Rail system.

This parcel is vacant and has the potential for mixed-use transit-oriented development (TOD). Developments that are transit-oriented in nature enhance VTA’s transit operations through increases in ridership and infrastructure improvements. VTA is analyzing the site for opportunities to work with the private development sector, along with the City of Milpitas, to plan a space that allows people to live and work near public transportation, which helps clear the air, ease traffic, and get you moving more efficiently and reliably.

VTA’s Transit-Oriented Development Program works with municipal and private partners to encourage the development of housing, retail, and employment centers in places that will help increase transit ridership and contribute to a vibrant community. Among VTA’s TOD requirements is that 25% of housing on a particular site must be affordable.

There is currently a retail opportunity at the Milpitas Transit Center Parking lot. Scan the flyer and reach out to VTA Real Estate, real.estate@vta.org, for more information.

Milpitas Metro Specific Plan

The City of Milpitas Metro Specific Plan (MMSP) is an update to the Milpitas Transit Area Specific Plan (TASP) that proposes redevelopment of the city's southern portion. VTA will support the MMSP already in place. For additional information, see the Metro Specific Plan.
