Tree removal
Daily removal of roadside trees along Wolfe Rd and the I-280 interchange edges. Chainsaw and equipment noise expected.
Lane shifts
Intermittent lane closures and shifts on Wolfe Rd (both directions) and near I-280 northbound on/off ramps.
Construction noise
Work will take place during the day and includes demolition, digging, and the use of heavy equipment. Drainage and electrical work will happen periodically. The Wolfe Road center median concrete barrier will be removed at night to minimize traffic impacts.
Tree removal details:
Locations along the Wolfe Road corridor
- Along Wolfe Road, including the center median concrete barrier and both sides of the street, no trees will be removed. However, the raised median island will be taken out.
- Work will take place near the northbound I-280 ramps and around the edges of the interchange.
- In nearby neighborhoods on both the east and west sides of Wolfe Road—such as around Homestead Road and Pruneridge Avenue intersections—no trees will be removed.
- Work will also occur near properties that border the I-280 corridor.
What should residents and drivers expect?
- You may hear noise from chainsaws and construction equipment during the day while work is happening.
- Sidewalks and road shoulders near the work areas may be temporarily closed for safety.
- Some trees along the road will be removed permanently as part of the approved project design.
- Each tree has been reviewed and marked ahead of time, and all removals are happening within Caltrans’ right-of-way (owned property).

What’s happening:
This is an early, heavy construction phase. Crews are clearing the right-of-way — removing trees, concrete islands, curbs, and sidewalks — and installing temporary traffic controls to allow major interchange reconstruction to begin. Expect visible, noisy changes along Wolfe Road and the I-280 interchange throughout this period.
What drivers should know:
Intermittent lane closures and shifts are expected on Wolfe Road in both directions and near the I-280 northbound on- and off-ramps. Lanes may narrow, shift, or be temporarily closed as K-rail barriers are installed and lanes are restriped. Most work is during the daytime. Allow extra travel time, especially during work hours.
- Watch for flaggers and changed lane configurations
- Traffic switches may occur as striping and barriers are installed
- Ramp access near the interchange may be temporarily affected
