What
US 101/SR 25 Interchange
Construction Update
Dates: August 18–22, 2025
Location: US 101/SR 25 Interchange area, Gilroy, CA
Work Activities:
- Utility Work: PG&E will remove overhead utility wires and poles in several areas east of US 101 and near SR 25.
- Electrical Installations: Contractors will continue installing new electrical lines and equipment throughout the project area.
- Roadwork: Nighttime excavation, pavement removal, barrier (K-rail) placement/removal, and paving of temporary road sections.
- Retaining Wall Construction: Installation of soil nails, rebar, and shotcrete for a new hillside retaining wall.
- Bridge Foundations: Drilling and constructing 30-inch CIDH piles and concrete columns for the Southbound US 101 to Eastbound 25 Connector and SR 25/US 101 separation structures.
- Environmental Monitoring: Ongoing paleontological and archaeological oversight during deep earthwork.
Why
VTA is continuing work on the US 101/SR 25 Interchange Phase 1 Improvements Project. Over the next few days crews will be working in multiple areas around the interchange.
Detour
Detour for Northbound Route 25 to Southbound US 101 Closure:
Night Work and Detours:
- August 18, Monday Night: 6:00 PM - 9:00 AM, Northbound off & on ramps from US 101 to SR 25 and the northbound #2 lane.
- August 19, Tuesday Night: 6:00 PM - 9:00 AM, Northbound off & on ramps from US 101 to SR 25 and the northbound #2 lane.
- August 20, Wednesday Night: 6:00 PM - 9:00 AM, Northbound off & on ramps from US 101 to SR 25 and the northbound #2 lane.
Detour Route:
- Continue north on SR 25.
- Follow detour signs onto Monterey Road.
- Reconnect to southbound US 101 at the Monterey Road interchange.

Traffic Impacts
What to Expect:
- Lane and Shoulder Closures: Short-term closures and reduced lanes are possible during barrier placement/removal and night paving.
- Night Work & Noise: Some activities, including excavation, pile drilling, and paving, will take place at night.
- Construction Equipment: Large machinery and cranes will be visible near the interchange.
- No Public Utility Service Interruptions Expected.
