SR 237/ Middlefield Road Improvements Project

Overview

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), in cooperation with the City of Mountain View and the Department of Transportation (Caltrans), proposes to enhance safety and improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities at the SR 237/Middlefield Road Interchange in Mountain View. 

Objective

The purpose of this project is to reduce collision severity on Middlefield Road at the SR 237 westbound on-ramp/frontage road intersection. In addition, the project will improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility and connectivity within the project area. 

Project Features

The proposed improvements may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Traffic calming features (raised medians, landscaping, transverse pavement markings)
  • Class IV bikeways and sidewalks along the westbound frontage road between Middlefield Road and Maude Avenue; as well as on Middlefield Road between Ferguson Drive and the SR 237/Middlefield Road intersection
  • Technology improvements such as traffic signal interconnection, signal optimization and modified traffic signal operations with separate bicycle/pedestrian phases

Capital Costs/Project Funding

The total project cost is estimated about $22 to $26 million and funded with a combination of local and 2016 Measure B.
