Fare Changes are Coming: Know Before You Go
12/31/2018
Stacey Hendler Ross

The second in a two-phase fare increase plan goes into effect January 1, 2019. The VTA Board of Directors passed the plan in June 2017. Prior to that, VTA fares had not changed since 2008.

Beginning in the new year, for a single-ride on local bus and light rail routes, the youth fare will be $1.25 and adult fare will be $2.50. A single-ride on an express bus will cost $5.00. View all fares here.

Also starting in 2019, you can purchase an Adult Clipper card at VTA ticket vending machines at all light rail station platforms. Customers can load fares at the time of ticket purchase or any time they want to add value to their card.

Fares purchased on a Clipper card or VTA’s mobile fare app, EZfare are valid for two hours after the first tag on Clipper, or upon activating a Single Ride fare on EZfare and include free transfers. For two hours customers can transfer for free across VTA bus and light rail service except on express buses. An express bus fare is required for any trips that include express service.

VTA encourages you to plan your trip prior to riding. We wish you a happy and healthy New Year.
