The Hostetter Station site is a 2.3-acre property located on Capitol Avenue, near Hostetter Road in San José, California. This property currently serves as a Park & Ride lot for VTA Light Rail passengers, which is served by VTA’s Orange line.
This land has the potential for mixed-use Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). Projects that are transit-oriented allow people to live and work near public transportation, which helps clear the air, ease traffic, and adds infrastructure investments to the community.
VTA's Transit-Oriented Development Program works with municipal, non-profit, and private partners to encourage the development of housing, retail, and employment centers in places that will help increase transit ridership and contribute to a vibrant community.
Station Access Study
VTA initiated the Hostetter Station Access Study to analyze multi-modal access and circulation to and from the station and development area. Recommendations may include improving bicycle connectivity, pedestrian access, wayfinding signage, transit passenger amenities, traffic calming measures and/or other safety enhancements.
Community Engagement
VTA recently completed a series of pop-up events and an online survey to determine how people access the station. A final station access study report will provide proposed access improvements, travel demand management strategies, and cost estimates for the station site and surrounding station area (within ½ mile) for future funding opportunities.
Community Outreach
VTA delivers outreach to the community in many ways, from email, web page posting like this, signage, tabling at events, presenting at your neighborhood association, and by mail notifications, to name a few. We use multiple approaches to ensure the community is informed and allow for authentic engagement.
Community Meetings
VTA hosted a community open house on September 13, 2025, at Cherrywood Elementary School. VTA has partnered with the Santa Clara County Housing Authority to build affordable housing at the site.
The meeting provided an opportunity to engage directly with VTA, meet the selected developer and their architect, and provide input on proposed transit improvements in the area.
