US 101/Zanker Road/Skyport Drive/Fourth Street Improvement Project

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in cooperation with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the City of San José, proposes to construct improvements on US Highway 101 (US 101) and adjacent local roadways in San José. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in cooperation with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the City of San José, proposes to construct improvements on US Highway 101 (US 101) and adjacent local roadways in San José. The Project includes constructing a new overcrossing above US 101 connecting Zanker Road on the north with Fourth Street and Skyport Drive on the south, replacing nonstandard ramps on northbound US 101 at Old Bayshore Highway and Brokaw Road with new ramps at Bering Drive, widening local roadways to accommodate the overcrossing and ramp modifications, and incorporating bicycle and pedestrian facilities into the project design. 

Environmental Documents

The Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR)/Environmental Assessment (EA) for this Project was released on December 29, 2023. Printed copies are available to read at the VTA Administrative Office, Building B Lobby, 3331 North First Street, San Jose, CA 95134. Public comments on the Draft EIR/EA were due on Friday, February 16, 2024.

 

Public Meeting

A public meeting for this project was held on Wednesday, January 10, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Walter L. Bachrodt Elementary School (102 Sonora Avenue, San Jose). A project presentation was given, followed by an open house for the public to ask questions and provide comments. A presentation recording is now available to view on Youtube for those who were not in attendance. 

Prior Community Engagement

A virtual Public Scoping Meeting was held for this project on October 20, 2021 . If you missed it, you can view a recording of the presentation on Youtube. The deadline for receiving comments on the project environmental scope was November 8, 2021.
