What We Do

According to Plan Bay Area 2050, by the year 2050, more than 80 percent of new Bay Area jobs and households created will be close to transit, and more than 3 in 10 new Bay Area households will be in Santa Clara County.

Transit-Oriented Communities link development within a half-mile of transit stations to their surrounding neighborhoods to create areas with access to multiple housing choices, jobs, parks and open space, and infrastructure for bicyclists and pedestrians. Transit-Oriented Communities allow Santa Clara County and the Bay Area to continue to be a center of economic growth and innovation while reducing congestion, sprawl, and carbon emissions.

Transit-Oriented Communities are about:

  • Being a good neighbor
  • Strengthening the local character of the communities VTA serves
  • Walkable safe places with abundant affordable housing choices
  • Equable, climate-friendly places you can enjoy & thrive without needing a car.
